Joanna Lumley is one of the most recognizable voices in Britain today, an actress known for years for her characters in English TV shows such as The New Avengers, Absolutely Fabulous, and Sapphire and Steel. Joanna was born in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir during the British Raj, and moved to Kent after Indian Independence. She began her career as a model, advertising for Nimble bread. Joanna Lumley came to prominence in the role of Purdey for the show The New Avengers, and her hairstyle on the show came to become a major fashion trend of 1970's Britain. After playing Purdey, she went onto Sapphire and Steel, acting this time as a enigmatic entity traveling through space and time. Perhaps her most famous role, however, was as the dissipated and drug addled fashionista Patsy Stone on the show Absolutely Fabulous.
